a little bit about me…

I grew up in Bristol, RI, a block from the Herreshoff boatyard and the rocky coastline of Narragansett Bay.  Bristol Harbor was the center of our lives, and we enjoyed spending time on an assortment of family boats, including an older brother’s classic Friendship sloop. 

Today I am blessed to live over half the year on the island of Islesboro, Maine, amidst the almost unimaginable beauty of North Penobscot Bay – its fog-swept rocky coves, ever-shifting skies, and extraordinary sunrises and sunsets.  As for its boats, including iconic lobster boats, Camden schooners, and the fleet of Dark Harbor 20’s (designed by Olin Stephens), I need only quote the master craftsman, R. D. Culler, “Boats, like whiskey, are all good.”  

I truly love Maine, and am tickled to be published in many publications that love it, too, including Yankee Magazine, Down East Magazine, and Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors.

I start each day with an early-morning photo adventure, and continue shooting through the day, whether it be sailboat races, a sudden summer squall, or a lavish evening sunset. And road trips exploring midcoast Maine and beyond are also a regular feature of my week.

Some days I’m fortunate to capture an image that makes my heart sing; other days, I just sing!

Took a little IG respite; two weeks into the new year seems like a good time to reemerge (now that self-imposed resolution deadline has passed). Freshening up my website and printing some summer work. Just printed and hung this image; the cleanliness
And now it’s time to put down my pen and close the exam book. I’ve done as much as I’m able and the rest is up to pre-planning and adrenaline. Enjoy the spirit of the season, share good thoughts, and eat all the cookies. Wishing you

Hunker down and be thankful this weekend, ‘cause the ride to year-end is about to accelerate! Vroom Vroom!
As light as a feather…memories of late afternoon sun on a glorious August day. Those are the Camden Hills, a favorite backdrop.
Snug as a bug, wrapped in a blanket of autumn hues.
A sweep of blues + a shock of white + a pop of red = the coast of Maine.
Solid Ground. Islanders are sensible, practical and realistic, with a little cray cray thrown in for good measure.
On mornings when the sky looks like this, my heart skips a beat.
Two people doing what they love…a lobsterman behind the wheel and a woman from Maine behind the lens. Both starting their day, heading into the unknown.
November is sailing in fast, carrying a boatload of stress! Plan plenty of downtime and exercise and whatever you need to stay afloat! Now I just need to follow my own advice……
